Alex joined Swansea University in January 2018, before which he was a Lecturer at the University of Sussex. He has a PhD from the University of Edinburgh (2015), a master's degree from University College London (2010) and an undergraduate degree from the University of Oxford (2004). He was called to the Bar in 2006.
His main research is in constitutional theory, with his PhD thesis examining the question of whether judicial review of legislation is anti-democratic. Alex is particularly interested in the symbolic dimension of constitutional design, and in the relationship between political institutions, political practices and political values.
