About
Allaina is a lecturer in journalism at Swansea University, and is Undergraduate Programme Director for the Journalism, Media and Communication degree. Allaina teaches a range of journalism modules that provide students with the skills to understand the theoretical principles and debates that underpin journalism. She also teaches students practical journalism skills including news and feature writing, and digital news gathering techniques.
Allaina’s research background started in political journalism, with a focus on how political comedy programmes like TV satire present an alternative perspective to conventional news reporting. More recently, Allaina has started researching lifestyle journalism, specifically sex and relationship advice offered in newspapers and the rise of these topics on social media platforms like Instagram.
