Are you working on research that aligns with the aims of the GCRF?

The PGR office is pleased to be running our first ever programme aimed at supporting postgraduate researchers working on global challenges research, funded by the GCRF.

The programme includes workshops which offer an insight into the experiences and challenges of working on global challenges research, development sessions to help our students become future research leaders, and finishes with an online symposium where students can present their research in a supportive environment and gain valuable practice in communicating their research.

Postgraduate Research Symposium

This event will offer PGR students an opportunity to share their research findings or experiences of research with a non-specialist audience.

The symposium, dedicated to GCRF aligned research, will connect PGR students across disciplines, offering an opportunity to share ideas and practice communicating your work in a supportive environment.

The symposium will run online. A full call for papers with details of how to apply will be circulated in the coming weeks.

Future Research Leaders Programme

The GCRF Future Research Leaders Programme will take place online on 26 and 27th May, 9:00-12:00 and 13:00-15:30. It is an opportunity to explore, in a small group, the skills, knowledge and attributes that are associated with research leadership.

Who is it for

The progamme is aimed at PGR students who aspire to a leadership role in a research institution. It is relevant to those who might be leading a research team or group and those who lead administrative teams in a research institute.

This workshop will look at:

  • Communication styles and effective meetings
  • Delegation
  • Performance management, including setting expectations, keeping on track and dealing with poor performance.
  • Dealing with change and difficult situations

  • Action planning

Training and Workshops

Support the next generation of researchers in carrying out research aligned to the GCRF and UN SDGs through a wide-ranging series of workshops that:
  • Allow all Swansea PGR students to develop their understanding of key themes that impact GCRF-related research, facilitated by researchers with practical experience in these areas
  • Explore how GCRF-aligned research can work in practice, through case study workshops that drawn on the experiences of researchers and practitioners.
Promote the development of professional skills and personal effectiveness that will support PGR students in becoming future research leaders in GCRF aligned disciplines.
Offer an opportunity for PGR students to share their own GCRF aligned research, methodologies, or experiences of research, in a dedicated and supportive PGR forum.
