Enhanced Professional Practice, MSc / PGDip / PGCert

This course comprises four optional 30 credit modules and one core 60 credit module:

• Year 1 two optional 30 credit modules
• Year 2 two optional 30 credit modules
• Year 3 one core 60 credit module

All optional modules commence in October and January.

You may access up to 60 credits from the School of Health and Social Care postgraduate catalogue of modules.

To apply for this course you will need:

• to be employed within the health and social care sector
• an appropriate degree or its equivalent from an approved institution (preferably 2:2 or above) evidence of recent academic study and/ or Continuous Professional Development
• a minimum of two years’ experience and possession of a relevant professional portfolio

To start your chosen module there is a core induction period for you to complete. The induction is through blended learning with both live online sessions and independent online learning resources.

The sessions give you the underpinning knowledge and skills to start your MSc studies, including: 

• Work based learning
• Action Learning Sets
• Critical reading, writing and thinking
• Reflective practice
• Online resources for learning and assessment
• Developing your portfolio
• Academic supervision

There is no requirement for you to attend university campus during the induction period, or at any time during your studies.

You will have the opportunity to meet your academic supervisor and members of the work based learning team during live online sessions, and you will continue to be supported throughout the course by your academic supervisor through online group action learning sets, one to one supervision and online support. For the duration of the programme learning is embedded in the work place, and you will evidence your learning in a portfolio which you develop throughout each module.

At least 40 credits

There are opportunities for Welsh speakers to study at least 40 credits of this postgraduate course through the medium of Welsh. Many University departments develop and offer Welsh medium or bilingual modules as part of their courses so you will need to discuss the possibilities with the relevant Programme Director. You can study a module or modules through the medium of Welsh where possible or submit your dissertation in Welsh with guidance from a subject specialist through the medium of Welsh.
