Graduates with certain degrees may be eligible for incentives of up to £20,000 if they want to train to be a teacher in Wales.

Priority subjects are:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • Welsh
  • Computer science
  • Modern foreign languages.

Students studying a full-time or part-time Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) can get funding to help with the costs of the course, providing all Student Finance eligibility criteria is met. For more information please visit our PGCE Funding page.


Graduates wishing to undertake a PGCE in certain subject areas could be eligible for teacher training incentives. Teacher training incentives are administered by the Welsh Government and are worth up to £20,000 (depending on subject areas and degree / master's classification).
