Estates and Campus Services Contractor Information
The engagement of contractors to work on the fabric or services of a building, must be via the Estates and Campus Services Technical Services team email@example.com.
The University is committed, so far as is reasonably practicable, to ensuring that its business activities are carried out so as not to cause ill health or injury to staff, students, visitors, contractors or anyone that may be affected by those activities, directly or indirectly.
The University, Health, Safety & Resilience Policy, and associated arrangements apply to contractor employees and activity.
Specific University arrangements are in place to ensure the management and control of contractors at the University, including arrangements to:
- Comply with legal requirements and undertake statutory duties related to activity involving
- Identify contractor competence and monitor contractor performance whilst undertaking work at a university campus, and or whilst working on behalf of the university. Unsafe or inappropriate working practices could result in stopping the activity / termination of the contract.
- Communicate, cooperate, and consult with contractors in a timely manner, enabling all parties to comply with legal and university requirements
- Enable a proactive, risk-based approach to all contractor activity.
- Identifying and managing risk and implementing effective risk control arrangements that are communicated and understood.
- Identifying and controlling high risk activity, using the university permit to work system
- Provide appropriate supervision and as appropriate, provide health and safety information, instruction and training.
All contractors must have access to health and safety competent advice and comply with university and legal requirements, ensuring that their activity is conducted in such a way as to minimise the risks to themselves and others who may be affected.
When on campus:
- Sign in on arrival to campus with Estates Technical Services or your Principal Contractor:
- Singleton Campus – Talbot Building, Room 004, South Entrance
- Bay Campus – Nanhyfer, First Floor, Room 107
- Carry out any work in line with your risk assessment and method statement.
- Report any issues or concerns to E&FM at the earliest opportunity
- Adhere to the contractor’s code of conduct (available from your university contact)
- Familiarise yourself with your work environment, understand the hazards, risks, and control measures in place.
- Adhere to any departmental rules and requirements i.e. restricted areas / prohibited activities
- Ensure that any equipment used as part of the contract is fit for purpose and maintained
- Comply with the university adverse event policy, in the event of an accident, incident or near miss
- Return any keys or access cards to Estates before leaving campus
- Leave your work area in a clean and safe condition
- Comply with university parking arrangements
