• LA-M10 Advanced Drafting

  Students will undertake a legal drafting project on a topic related to a core legal practice area of their own choice. Students will independently research an untaught area of legal practice of their choosing, and draft at least two related guidance documents for identified specialist and non-specialist target audiences, such as legal practitioners or the judiciary and clients or victims of crime. Students who wish to draft a different type of legal document or documents may do so by prior arrangement. This will be supervised by a nominated supervisor within the School of Law and convened by the Module Coordinator. Supervision will be provided in accordance with the procedures set out in the Module Handbook.

• LAA206 Equity & Trusts 2

  This module examines the key principles and doctrines of equity and focuses in particular on the trust which is equity¿s most important creation. Every well-developed legal system seeks to enable property or funds to be held by one party either for the benefit of another or to be applied towards the attainment or promotion of various purposes and to enforce certain obligations against the party holding such property. The trust is the vehicle through which this is done under English law. The primary aim of this module is to provide a sound basis for understanding the nature and types of trusts, the diverse contexts in which trusts arise, the principles governing their creation and enforcement, the beneficial interests operating behind the trust, the obligations imposed on trustees and the remedies available for breaches of trust. In Equity and Trusts 2, we will focus in particular on the application of the trust concept to modern life including charitable trusts, resulting trusts, and constructive trusts; and, the obligations on trustees and remedies available for breaches of trust including the liability of third parties.

• LACM14 International Intellectual Property Law

  This module concentrates on the international law aspects of Intellectual Property (IP). With the growing global market and continuing disparity between developed and developing countries, IP has assumed a significant role in international discourse. The module discusses the set of laws that govern the creation, protection, sharing, and use of intellectual property in the global context. Topics such as copyright, trademark, geographical indication systems, traditional knowledge, cultural heritage, patents, plant varieties and industrial designs will be explored. IP protection is traditionally jurisdictional, yet, it has become common for IP issues to arise across jurisdictions because IP laws can vary significantly from one country to another. International IP law is the subject of treaties between nations throughout the world, therefore, the module further examines the various existing and proposed international instruments relating to Intellectual Property, such as the TRIPS agreement; Paris, Berne, Rome and Madrid Conventions; Marrakesh Treaty etc. There are organizations that seek to provide global IP protection by establishing international IP laws, hence, the module reviews the efforts of the World Trade Organization (WTO), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in the field of international IP framework.

• LALD09 Advanced Legal Drafting

  Students will undertake a legal drafting project on a topic related to a core legal practice area of their own choice. Students will independently research an untaught area of legal practice of their choosing, and draft a practice or guidance note for legal practitioners or the judiciary and a guidance document for clients on the application of the law and legal practice in the chosen area. This will be supervised by a nominated supervisor within the School of Law and convened by the Module Coordinator. Supervision will be provided in accordance with the procedures set out in the Module Handbook.
