Interim Pro-Vice Chancellor/Executive Dean, Faculty of Science & Engineering

Professor Johann Sienz is the Interim Pro-Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean for the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Prior to this, he was extensively involved in developing and driving the vision for and the creation of the new faculty from the College of Engineering and College of Science. Previously at Swansea, he held senior leadership positions in the College of Engineering as Director of Enterprise, Partnership and Innovation, Director of Learning and Teaching, Director of the Future Manufacturing Research Institute as well as leading multi-university partner teams and research projects, and a doctoral training centre.

Johann leads the strategic development of the faculty as a nationally and globally recognised centre and trusted partner providing an inclusive and stimulating environment that produces lifelong learners who are prepared for the global economy, delivering world-class research and innovation transcending traditional subject boundaries, and serving the local, national and global societies in meeting present and future challenges.

Johann’s research interests are computational modelling and optimization of structures, processes and systems, additive manufacture, smart manufacturing, digital twins, and digitally enhanced market places. His work involves extensive collaboration with regional, national and international stakeholders. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE) and of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS), and a Member of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (MIMA). He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Chartered Mathematician (CMath).  He is the Editor in Chief of the highly regarded international journal “Applied Mathematical Modelling”.
